Subj: CHIEF BIKE PROJECT UPDATE
1. The 20th of May, 2006 marked a major transition to the next phase for the Chief Bike Project. Representatives from JAX Custom Cycles, Greater Northwest CPOA, Mayport CPOA and NavyChief.com met at JAX Custom Cycles to agree on the appropriate next steps for the project. Justin Maloney presented a check from the Greater Northwest CPOA to Gary Jenkins of JAX Custom Cycles to begin the build of the bike. Now that the project has officially moved to the next phase, both the Greater Northwest CPOA and Mayport CPOA had recent motions passed to relocate the Chief Bike Project headquarters to the Mayport CPOA. The whole event was well documented by JO1 Eric Dehm, PAO for NRD Jacksonville and PH2(AW) Brian Smarr, Fleet Imaging, NAS Jacksonville, and they will be following up with routine updates as the project takes shape.
2. I can't put into words how great it was to finally meet some of the fine people who have kept this project alive. REAL Chiefs, like Master Chief Paul Turban, Master Chief Brad Haskins, Chief Louis Perez, Senior Chief Glen Spigelmeyer, Senior Chief Jon Ayres, Senior Chief Troy Horsley and Chief Paul Lafferty to just name a few. In addition to the Chiefs present, Gary Jenkins, the owner of JAX Cycles, was a superb host, rolling out a number of his awesome creations for the photos with the Chiefs.
3. To all who have supported this project, and to those who showed up on Saturday, I can't thank you enough. To the hundreds of Chiefs who bought shirts or sent in a donation with blind faith and no questions asked, knowing what this project means, thank you. You will not be disappointed.
Very Respectfully,
J. D. MALONEY
